100th AUSKICKER AT MANLY
BOMBERS
"Congratulations Manly Bombers Auskick on the
registration of your 100 th Auskicker for the 2008
Season".
The true believers said this day would come and sure enough it
has.
From small beginnings 7 years ago, our Club with less than 30
players in total and only a handful of those being Auskickers, have
this week registered our 100th Auskicker an The Manly Bombers for
the 2008 season.
The growth of our Club and the Auskick Numbers is a direct
reflection of the time, effort and support we The Manly Bombers
have received from you the dedicated parents of Auskick players,
past and present. You have come along with your child to have them
play Footy and have in turn found a place where your skills are
needed.
To those of you, who have risen to the challenge and given to
our club much more, this mile stone is a sweet reward.
We also extend our thanks to the dedicated AFL Staff who have
given more then their time to assist us in the continued
development of our sport in this highly competitive
environment.
Manly Bombers, parents & players, you all deserve to share
our excitement and sense of achievement in reaching this remarkable
mile stone.
Auskick Team Profile
Auskick is a modified rules game of Aussie Rules footy.
Our 5-7 yr old Auskick players come together as a squad for warm
ups and skill drills, then are divided into two age groups when
playing games, 5-6 yr and 7 yr olds.
Our 8 yr old Auskick players train together and play together as
a team in a home and away fixture between other local
clubs.
Skill Development:
At the beginning of the
season we run skill development at introductory level for all age
groups, this introduces basic skills to new recruits as well as
refreshing the basic skills with returning players.
As the season progresses we divide the age groups, so as to give
the older players a higher level of skills more specific to their
level of development.
Later in the season we may also provide specific skill training
for the 8yr olds in preparation for their playing in the under 9s
the following year.
Team Profile:
Our 5 -7 yr old Auskick
teams are put together each time we come together for a game.
The number of teams that we field on a day depends on number of
players available on that day. This makes participation in Auskick
flexible for busy families.
We like to play with even teams of 9 players per team however we
can play with between 6 to 12 per team.
First the Squad is divided into two age groups, 5-6yrs and
7yrs.
Then the age groups are divided into even teams of 9 players per
team.
The children tend to line up into teams with their friends and the
other children they want to play with.
The coaches may need to make minor adjustments to balance the
numbers or to even the skill level of certain teams from time to
time. However we find that if the games are one sided and lack
competition then the children themselves will make adjustments to
the teams the following session.
We try to remember children like to win, but more importantly,
they like to have fun.
Program:
Our Auskick program places
emphasis on:
Being fun and being safe.
Motor coordination and movement activities in small groups.
Enhancing self esteem and building social skills through individual
achievement and group cooperation.
Development of basic skills.
Introducing children to match play through AFL Auskick Rule
games.
